1. A new UW study shows evictions are sky-high in Milwaukee. We had a live interview with Mark Desmond. Brenda Konkel of the Tenant Resource Center (who just opened a Milwaukee Branch) also commented on what they do to help in these cases.
2. Sen. Glenn Grothman wants the state to take over Madison's snow-removal policies. Mayoral Spokesperson Rachel Strauch-Nelson doesn't think it's a big deal, or likely to go anywhere. We spoke to both.
3. Edgewater is up for another vote (didn't we just do this?) we spoke to former Alder Brenda Konkel and current Alder Bridget Maniaci. They disagree.
4. Stacy Harbaugh of the ACLU of Wisconsin discussed concerns about State Steet Cameras (been there for two years now) and privacy concerns.
BEATS:
- Wisconsin (last week) and New York (today) join the Asian Carp lawsuit to close Illinois locks connecting Lake Michigan to the Mississippi basin.
- Madison foreclosures up almost 20% from 2008, setting a record. Southeast Wisconsin hit hardest, unsurprisingly.
- State cuts payments to municipalities.
- Rural hospitals hope a tax will help address a 15 million dollar cut to medicaid funding.
